Why does a cat rub?

17 Jul 2024

Anyone who has a cat at home is aware of this animal's fondness for friction, when in many cases, the objects of the cats' friction are the owners themselves, all members of the household and sometimes guests as well.
So most people think that the reason the cat rubs in the garden is because it is his way of showing affection and showing love to his owner.
Although this thinking is indeed correct, it is only one of the reasons why cats rub and there is also another reason for cats' love to rub against people and, in addition, also against walls and objects to mark territory.
The marking of the territory is done by using the scent glands which are found in different areas of the cat's body such as: the areas around the face (this is why cats who wish to show affection to their owners press and rub their cheeks against the face), the feet and the tail area.

Get to know your cat
There are a wide variety of signs that have the power to show and testify to the feelings of the cats, where besides the friction, there are other signs that are worth knowing, among others: if the cat is embarrassed by its owner and half closes its eyes, this can indicate its trust and confidence in its owner.
The cat has sharp hearing and even if you live for example on the fourth floor, he can still hear you when you approach the building and most likely also approach the door area and wait for you there.
At the same time, the cat's hearing is selective, so if you open the refrigerator for example, your cat will, of course, express interest and come to the area, but if he hears something that is less relevant to him, he probably won't bother to get up from the corner where he is napping.
